Raphael of the well known cymbalholic discussion forum decided it would be fun to have a contest where each participant would make a short piece of music using just a single cymbal. The contest is open as of today, 2005.11.07.
Thus far, the rules are:
- one player, one submission
- only one single cymbal is allowed
- any number of striking tools and playing techniques is welcome
- submitted piece is 1 to 2 minutes long
- recording is in mp3 format at 192 Kbit/s, joint stereo (see below
- entries are submitted to ISCC Entry
- after closing of the contest, the recordings will be anonymized, presented to the forum and voted on
- The closing date is the end of 2005. Voting will be open shortly thereafter.
- Interest provided, a CD with a presentation of the event may be created
Quick recording on Windows
Have a working microphone connected to your Windows based computer? Download the tools and unzip somwhere on your disk. A folder ISCC should occur. Open it. Double click mp3DirectCut. In the program, push [Rec], then [Play]. Recording starts. Use your Windows mixer to adjust volume. Click [Stop] when done. Cut off empty space at start and end by selecting with the mouse and pushing [Cut]. Click File/Save all... to save your edits. Answer yes to overwrite. A file named something like Recording-2005-11-07--16-33-40.mp3 should be found in the directory where you put mp3DirectCut. That's your recording. Send a e-mail containing your cymbalholic forum name with that file attached to ISCC Entry. You may include text and pictures describing your effort and procedure (nice to have on a prospective CD). Done.
