3 large gongs

The three 50'' Chinese type gongs on this photo are made from brass, not bronze. This is because it wouldn't be feasible to cast them in a traditional way. The gongs are completely hand-hammered which takes three workers to handle them. The shape of these instruments is similar to the Wuhan 'Wind Gong', which produces a trashy crash.
Given the large diameter, a thickness around 4 mm and the resulting mass of metal, it can easily be imagined that a 30" beater swung with a firm grip is needed to actually make these crash. The result is an earthshaking roar. The three pieces represent a value of approximately $7500. These gongs (UFIP calls them tam-tams) are yet to be finished with a linear scratch pattern and the UFIP ink stamp. The result looks like this:
