One of two hammering compartments. Note the hearing protection and muffling wall cover.
The working of three 18" crash cymbals with the 'bumper' takes the craftsman about fifteen minutes. It was a fascinating sight because of the power, speed, and precision involved. He interchanges the cymbals every once in a while and flips the stack over, so each cymbal gets treated in every position in the stack, from both top and bottom sides.
Thereafter final corrections are made with a more traditional hand-held hammer. It took 5 minutes to finish this 18'' cymbal. Hammering takes less time at UFIP since the raw profile is already present after roto-casting.
