UFIP: More hammering

Is it even?

Every once in a while the cymbal is checked for even shape. Obtaining the appropriate shape or 'profile' -- which is specific to each certain model -- is what the hammering process is all about. The profile determines a great deal of the sound of the finished cymbal. The steel table to the right is the means of checking the flatness of the edge. At this stage, the shape of the cymbal is all that matters. They know the cymbal will sound right when the desired profile is arrived at. The shape is judged by eye and experience only, no drumsticks here. I was astounded how consistent the cymbals were both in looks and sound, without any measuring.
