UFIP: Workshop

Workshop with roto-casting machines

This is the room were most of the stages in UFIP's cymbal production process take place. Casting, tempering, roughing, lathing are all performed here. Only hammering is done in a separate compartment for the noise it produces. The roto-casting machine on the right is where all the B20 Bronze cymbals start their lives. UFIP is the only company in the world whose cymbals really deserve the label 'cast' since the complete cymbal -- including the bell -- is cast in one single operation (as opposed to casting chunks and rolling them flat afterwards). Fluid bronze is poured into the roto-cast mold rotating at some hundred rpm which already has the size and approximate shape of the cymbal to be.
